Welcome to Arkansas State University!

Recognizing Our Staff

The PROPS program includes a monthly profile of an A-State staff member that works every day behind the scenes to improve Arkansas State University… because EVERY Red Wolf Counts!

Staff members are selected from a pool of candidates that is created from the PROPS nomination form.

Tawana "Tia" Caldwell

Tia was nominated by LaVonda Evans for her dedication to keeping the Humanities and Social Sciences building in such great custodial shape. Tia always carries a smile and can brighten up any room. Her laughter is contagious and her faith keeps her humble. She strives to excel in her duties and goes above and beyond to make sure each department’s needs are met. Whether cleaning or chatting, Tia is a remarkable person and an asset to the A-State community.
PROPS Subcommittee members Madelyn Carson and LaVonda Evans met with Tia to discuss her contributions to A-State and to get to know her better.

What makes a good staff member?

“You have to be a good team player. Like, when I’m done with my work and I know someone needs help to finish theirs, or if they are shorthanded, I’d reach out to help get the job done.”

The best advise I ever received was…

“Always treat people right, regardless of how they treat you. And always pray for them!”

Favorite quote or saying…

“I love you” or “God bless you”

Place of Birth

“Memphis, TN”

Most recent binge show/favorite movie

“Breakthrough! I love spiritual movies; there is always something to learn, some moral or teaching that makes you think deeper about yourself.”

What is one thing you wish you could teach everyone about your role on campus?

“How to love each other. There isn’t enough of that here. If everyone cared for each other and helped each other, campus would be so much better.”

What music do you listen to?

“I love all kinds of music, but Gospel is my favorite!”

Beach or mountains?

“Beach”

In school, I was most known for…

“Class clown! I was always making people laugh. Laughing is good for everybody.”

What I like about A-State is…

“How they offer the opportunity to go back to school, you know, to better ourselves and better our education. It motivates staff to keep going and keep reaching for more.”

What is one thing you’d like your A-State community to know about you?

“I am a loving and caring person and I’m willing to help. If I can be an encouraging word, I’m like, ‘let’s do this’!”
