The Office of Diversity seeks to fund projects designed to advance our mission of creating a diverse and inclusive environment conducive to educating, enhancing, and enriching lives.
The Office of Diversity has supported numerous projects including: support for tenure activities, sponsoring speakers/performers, and sponsoring student group activities. Projects that align with one of our four strategic focus areas will be given priority.
In order to have your proposal considered, it must include the following:
PROPOSAL COMPONENTS
Cover page
Please make sure your cover page includes the following:
- Project title
- Purpose
- Requester name, title, department
- Estimated time-frame (or time period, if ongoing)
- Amount of funding requested (include whether additional funding is being sought or received and source and amount of additional funding, if applicable)
- Complete activity budget
- Outcomes
Contributions to Diversity
In one page, discuss purpose and need for the grant; describe how grant will be used to support at least one strategic focus area and include at least one target population ( i.e. student, faculty, staff, community):
- Recruitment
- Retention
- Graduation/Promotion
- Campus and Community Engagement
Proposals will be evaluated based on contributions to the campus and alignment with a strategic focus area as well as amount of funding requested. All request should be submitted at least 45 days prior to the commencement of the activity. The Office of Diversity will review and respond to requests within 14 days after receipt of proposal. Requesters of all funded proposals will be required to submit a project summary within 30 days of project completion detailing the following:
- Anticipated versus delivered project outcomes
- Total amount of expenditures
- Impact to campus, community, region or state
- Pictures(if applicable)
Failure to complete the project summary will result in disqualification from receiving funds in the future.
Strategic focus areas
The Office of Diversity has streamlined our efforts to provide Arkansas State University with a comprehensive diversity plan. This plan is guided by four focus areas that will ensure that the campus remains reflective of inclusion and diversity. Each of the areas touches upon our three main stakeholders; students, faculty/staff and the greater delta region. Projects that fall under this category assist with defining institutional priorities regarding diversity and inclusion; provide opportunity for interaction and “free” expression; and may relate to establishing major programming for the University. Examples of activities that fall under this category include conducting climate surveys, establishing advisory councils or affinity groups or other long-term, permanent structural programs.
Recruitment
This focus area seeks to assist the university in attracting a diverse group of people. Projects that fall under this category address the recruitment of underrepresented students, faculty and staff. Additionally, projects could include search process training, recruitment visits, campus outreach and institutional performance.
Retention
This focus area addresses campus culture and measures climate. Projects that fall under this category ensure fairness and consistency in retention efforts and projects that are designed to ensure that minority students are on par with majority students in terms of retention and completion. Additionally, projects that fall under this category are designed to increase diversity awareness and cultural competence of campus groups, including administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Graduation/Promotion
This focus area is meant to provide assurance that each of our constituency groups feel that they can reach their denouement at the university. Projects that fall under this category are designed to increase graduation rates of minority students, increase percentage of minority tenured professors and increase percentage of minority administrators.
Campus and Community Engagement
This focus area ensures that the campus and community remain partners in achieving diversity and inclusion on campus and in the surrounding area. Projects that fall under this category assist with defining institutional priorities regarding diversity and inclusion; provide opportunity for interaction and “free” expression; and may relate to establishing major programming for the University. Examples of activities that fall under this category include conducting climate surveys, establishing advisory councils or affinity groups or other long-term, permanent structural programs. Additionally, this focus area seeks to establish long-standing partnerships by providing support to community organizations.
