A post-Master's Graduate Certificate in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is available to RNs who have recent clinical experience and have completed a MSN with advanced preparation in another specialty area from an accredited institution. Graduates of a MSN program with a AGACNP option that did not include the required certification eligibility requirements from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or the American Associated of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) (Advanced Physiology/Pathophysiology; Advanced Health Assessment, including diagnostics and disease management; Advanced Pharmacology; and/or minimum of 500 faculty supervised clinical hours) are also eligible to apply. A request for a curriculum “Gap Analysis” to determine an individual Plan of Study will be requested from the Program Coordinator prior to admission.

    In order to be considered for admission into the MSN program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program of nursing from a regionally accredited college or university. 
      • Hold a current unencumbered licenses to practice nursing
      • Cumulative overall GPA of 3.25 (4.0 scale) or a 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate nursing coursework
      • Be CPR certified (professional level)\

      Admission to the Graduate School and meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission to all majors.

      Applying to the Graduate School

      All applicants for any MSN program must first be accepted by the Graduate School. Apply online here.

      • Send official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate work (personal copies will not be accepted) to: ASU Graduate Admissions, PO Box 1570, State University, AR 72467
      • Designated, non-refundable application fee
      • Written documentation of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) immunization
      • US citizens must be registered or exempt with Selective Service. Affirmation Action information can be found here.

      Applying to the MSN Program

      After applying to the Graduate School, candidates must also apply to the MSN program:

      1. Be accepted by the Graduate School for admission.
      2. Complete the MSN application
      3. Meet the Application Deadlines: Summer Term Admission Only, Application Deadline is May 1st
      4. Pre-Clinical Requirements:
        • One year experience as an RN
        • CPR Certification
        • TB Skin Test
        • Evidence of Hepatitis B Immunization
        • Professional Liability
        • Valid, Unencumbered RN License in the State of Practice

      Upon successful completion of the AGACNP program, graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination administered by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or the American Association of Critical Care Nurse (AACN).
