Mrs. Rebecka McAlister, a native of Jonesboro, AR, graduated from Arkansas State University with a BM in Vocal Performance as a student of Dr. Marika Kyriakos. She started her undergraduate education at Missouri State University in the Musical Theatre program where she gained a strong foundation in acting and Musical Theater style for two years before returning to her hometown to finish her degree. McAlister received the Master of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of Mississippi while serving as graduate assistant to the Director of Opera. In this program, she was given great opportunities to direct scenes and even be Assistant Director for the 2018 spring production of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera. 

A great love of both Opera and Musical Theater has directed her to seek a variety of performance and education opportunities. Mrs. McAlister has studied with the Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy, where she performed in concerts around Florence. She was the winner of the Living Music Institute Aria Competition in 2018 and performed with the  LOU Syhmphony Orchestra of Oxford, MS. She has also performed with the Red River Lyric Opera in Wichita Falls, TX, and numerous University and Community Theater productions. Some of her favorite roles include Aline in Arkansas State University’s production of  The Sorcerer, Judy Bernly in The Community Theatre of Little Rock’s production of 9-5: The Musical, Mrs. Herring in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring at Ole Miss, and the Governess in Britten’s The Turn of The Screw with Red River Lyric Opera. She has been awarded many scholarships in her education career and has placed 1st or 2nd in many Arkansas, Mississippi, and Southern Region NATS competitions.

Along with performing, Mrs. McAlister has taught voice lessons privately from her home while being a wife, mother, and regular volunteer in her church music ministry. She joined the faculty of Arkansas State University as the Opera Director in the spring of 2020 and has a passion for the musical arts and passing on a love of Opera to generations to come.
