Press Release: State Board Approves New Program in Data Science and Data Analytics

The Data Science and Data Analytics program at Arkansas State University offers an interdisciplinary curriculum of study designed to provide our students with the broad background, technical depth, and domain knowledge necessary to be competitive and successful data scientists or data analysts in today’s scientific and industrial workforce.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Data Science and Data Analytics program offers a Bachelor of Science degree featuring core courses in statistics, computer science, mathematics, visualization, data governance, and ethics.  Students may customize their degree path with an emphasis in either Data Science or Data Analytics.

In addition to the core and emphasis, each student will select a "domain study" option to gain experience in an application domain of their choice.  Some domain study options in development include health care, social sciences, engineering, computer science and geospatial technologies.  The degree requires a total of 120 credit hours, and features a credit-bearing internship and capstone experience.

This degree is a highly collaborative effort between six colleges: College of Agriculture, College of Education and Behavioral Science, College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Liberal Arts and Communication, College of Nursing and Health ProfessionsCollege of Science and Mathematics.

The program also offers an Undergraduate Certificate appropriate for students in other majors who would like to add data analytics skills to their educational experience.  The certificate requires 25 credit hours, of which 6 credit hours are already included in the General Education requirements complete for the student’s original degree program.
