Our students are engaged in a wide range of academic pursuits that include degree programs in 160 undergraduate and graduate fields delivered by 6 different colleges.
Blackboard Learn™ with the Ultra experience (Learn Ultra) delivers a simpler, more powerful teaching and learning experience. With a modern, intuitive, fully responsive interface, Learn Ultra better engages students, eases the burden on educators, and clears the path to success.
Learn Ultra is comprised of Ultra Base Navigation, the Original Course View and the Ultra Course View.
Ultra Base Navigation is a modern, intuitive menu that lives outside of courses and organization. From the moment you log in, you have access to core Blackboard features from the left-hand Base Navigation menu.
It includes links to new pages, such as the Activity Stream, Calendar, Messages, etc., that provide quick access to the most critical information consolidated from all your courses.
The Base Navigation menu remains in view as you move from page to page—even when you're in a course. As you open pages, they open as layers. Close the layers to return to a previous page or the menu.
You can easily return to the Base Navigation menu from wherever you are—even if you're in a course. You'll see it behind and to the left of the other layers you have open.
From the moment you log in, you have access to core features in the menu where your name appears. You can easily return to the menu from wherever you are—even if you're in a course. The menu peeks from behind the other layers you have open.
When you select any link from the menu, you see a global view across all your courses. For example, Grades shows all your grading tasks organized by course. No need to navigate to each course to see what's ready for grading.
How will Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation enhance my experience?

Q. Why are we updating to the Ultra Base Navigation?
Ultra Base Navigation is the next step in ensuring that we are utilizing the latest technologies that are available from Blackboard. It will also help to ensure student and faculty user experience is consistent across technologies and platforms. The new layout makes Blackboard Learn more accessible for various devices and provides a simple, consistent experience regardless of how it is accessed.
Q. What is changing?
Only the way you navigate to various areas of our Blackboard site is changing. In our current version of Blackboard, you navigate by using Tabs (the links across the top of the Blackboard home screen) and Modules (the boxes of information contained on those tabs). In the new navigation (known as Ultra Base Navigation), the navigation menu is now located down the left side of the screen. For those of you who use the Blackboard mobile applications, this should be very familiar.
Q. How will this change my course or organization?
The Base Navigation does not change the content of your course or organization. It does require that all Original Course View courses use the standard menu color combination. Faculty will no longer be able to use buttons or change the color of their course menu. This consistency in experience is more ADA compliant. It can also help reduce frustrations and increase the likelihood of engagement and success.
Faculty may use a course banner to customize their course in the Original Course View. A custom course banner can be created using the Faculty Center's Banner Generator tool. For more information about the Banner Generator tool, contact the AState Faculty Center.
