Scholarship Opportunities

University Scholarships

   

1. Maxwell Brooks Dyslexia Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Criteria:

  • Full-time, upper level student with at least 30 completed hours
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.75
  • Must be an Arkansas resident. FIRST preference given to Craighead county students.
  • Application includes proof to the selection committee use of services provided by Disability Services office & other resources on campus such as, tutor services, advising services, individual meetings with faculty, etc.
  • Two letters of recommendation from an adult (non-relative) who can testify academic abilities, character, and volunteer experience: a principal, school counselor, or teacher, and another form of non-relative adult who has known the applicant more than six months.
  • Brief essay/bio about the positive impact of having dyslexia.

   

2. John T. Clements III Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $500

Criteria:

  • Students with profound physical disabilities with preference given to students with Cerebral Palsy
  • Incoming freshman or currently enrolled full-time with a minimum of 2.5 overall GPA (4.0 scale)

   

3. Ruby I Reng Memorial Scholarship

Amount: Based on interest earned from the endowment.

Criteria:

  • Students must have completed at least 45 hours at Arkansas State University.
  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must express intent to graduate from ASU & be a full-time student during the award period.
  • Financial need will be considered.
  • Finalists will be interviewed before award is made.

   

4. Mays Mission Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Criteria:

  • Physical or mental disability
  • 18 or better on ACT
  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • Enrolled in 4-year program
  • Submit grades each semester
  • Other considerations may be included

   

External Scholarships/Grants

   

1. Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a student with a disability
  • Must be enrolled in or planning to take at least 12 credit hours each semester
  • Must apply for services in the county in which you live
  • Must be eligible for gainful employment after graduation

    • If you are not a resident of Jonesboro, they can give you the phone number for your particular county office so that you can apply in the county that you reside in.

   

2. AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability

Deadline: March 1, 2023

Criteria:

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have completed one full year of college or more. In other words, the applicant must have sophomore or greater status in a program at a college or university pursuing an undergraduate degree as of fall 2023; or enrolled part-time or full-time in a graduate school, pursuing a post graduate degree as of fall 2023.
  • Applicant must have a disability as defined by the American with Disabilities Act and must provide documentation to verify this.
  • Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, disability studies, health promotion or a field related to disability and health.
  • Preference will be given to students with a history of community service and/or volunteer activities.
  • Applicant must be a US citizen or legal resident living in the United States and enrolled in an accredited United States university.

3. The Workforce/WIOA Grant

A workforce grant that assists students with disabilities in paying for the last 2 years of school if they major in certain areas. To get more information about if you qualify and how to apply, please see contact information below.
