Voice Students to Perform in Benefit Recital

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University music students Crystal Aronson, Cori Beasley and Michelle Byrd will perform in a benefit recital with pianist Sean Pollock on Monday, May 12, at the Chancellor’s Residence on East Nettleton Ave.  A reception will follow.

Mary Grogan, general director of OperaMaya, visited A-State for the second time in the fall for a master class and auditions. Several voice and instrumental students auditioned for the Summer Festival. Two voice students were selected as scholarship recipients: sopranos Michelle Byrd, senior Bachelor of Music Education student from Pine Bluff, and Crystal Aronson, Master of Music in Vocal Performance student from Paragould.

Cori Beasley, senior Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Gilmer, Texas, and Aronson were selected to participate in the Druid City Opera Workshop and Young Artist Training Program, which is affiliated with the University of Alabama School of Music.

The benefit will be conducted in support of these students who will be participating in these exciting educational ventures. Each student will sing samples of their operatic repertoire and share a bit about themselves and the summer programs.

Those interested in attending the recital are encouraged to contact Dr. Marika Kyriakos, associate professor of music, by email, mkyriakos@astate.edu, or by phone (870) 972-3801.
