Billy Jones Bluez Band Brings High Level Entertainment to KASU Bluesday Tuesday

10/01/2013

JONESBORO, Ark. — Arkansas State University’s public radio station KASU-FM will feature the Billy Jones Bluez Band, Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Newport Country Club from 7-9 p.m. Jones and the band blend contemporary and traditional blues sounds with funk and hip-hop.

As a contemporary bluesman, Jones has recorded the albums “I’m a Bluesman” (2013), “The Billy Jones Story” (2011), and “Prime Suspect for The Blues” (1998). Some writers have compared Jones’ guitar style to Buddy Guy’s, and Real Blues magazine says his recent recordings are among “the very best authentic modern blues and soul albums in recent memory.”

Jones is no stranger at KASU concerts, having played numerous times for the station’s live event audiences in Jonesboro and Newport. Jones appears with his band regularly at casinos in Mississippi, for private and corporate events, and at various nightspots in central Arkansas where the band is based.

The KASU “Bluesday Tuesday” concerts take place on the second Tuesday of each month in the ballroom of the Newport Country Club, 703 Walker Drive in Newport. Admission is free; KASU personnel pass the hat so that concertgoers may tip the band. Sponsors are C&C Distributors, Harris Ford and ASU-Newport.

For more information about Bluesday Tuesday and other KASU concerts, contact KASU station manager Mike Doyle at 870-972-3486 or through e-mail at mdoyle@astate.edu.
