Nowlin is PI for High-Tech Agri Research Project

Dr. John W. Nowlin, assistant professor of geospatial technologies, is principal investigator for a high-tech agricultural research project in Eastern Arkansas. Meta Special Aerospace is partnering with the College of Agriculture and its Agricultural Systems Technology Lab to develop applications using aerial remote sensing technologies. Nowlin's objective is to research and develop agricultural applications using airborne sensor data. Details are online.

Oliver & Officers Begin Staff Senate Terms

Congratulations to Rebecca Oliver (right), director, Honors College, who has been elected president of the Staff Senate for the 2020-21 year. Oliver is beginning her 14th year at A-State and third in Staff Senate. Lauren DeFazio, Mathematics & Statistics, was elected vice president. Other officers elected were Cathy Naylor, Human Resources, vice president for communications; Alyssa Wells, Pack Support, secretary; and Pam Graham, Education & Behavioral Science, treasurer.

Press Group Names Fowler Top Educator Press Group Names Fowler Top Educator

The Arkansas Press Association has selected Dr. Gilbert Fowler, professor of strategic communication, as Journalism Educator of the Year. Fowler, who recently retired, also directed the graduate program in media and communication. An alumnus of A-State's journalism program, Fowler promoted journalism education both in the region and internationally during his 42-year career. Award details are in a Press Association news feature.

 
Quintana Presents to Counselors Group Quintana Presents to Counselors Group

Dr. Taqueena Quintana, assistant professor of counseling, made a virtual presentation about issues in school counseling at the annual Professional School Counselors of Color Conference in July. Quintana, one of three keynote speakers, shared her expertise on self-care and workplace wellness for school counselors. She teaches in the A-State Online Master of Science in Education school counseling program.

 
Mixon Retires from Engineering Faculty

Congratulations to Dr. Paul Mixon, associate professor of electrical engineering, who has retired after a 24-year career at A-State. Mixon completed his bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Memphis, then worked for the Arkansas Public Service Commission and taught at Memphis before arriving at A-State in 1996. His service at A-State included a successful run as interim dean of the college.
