Benavides Research Receives FRAC Funding Benavides Research Receives FRAC Funding

Congratulations to Dr. Claudia Benavides Ambs, associate professor of sport management, whose Faculty Research Fund application has been approved by the Faculty Research Awards Committee (FRAC). Her proposal is titled "Sexual Harassment of Immigrants and First-Generation Americans in Extracurriculars’ Effect on Learning." The proposal, funded in the amount of $6,000 for the 2020-21 year, will conclude with her report to the Office of Research and Technology Transfer.

 
Segall Edits Book on Software for Big Data

Dr. Richard Segall, professor of computer and information technology, is lead editor of a new book, Open Source Software for Statistical Analysis of Big Data: Emerging Research and Opportunities, published by IGI Global. Segall also is solo author of chapter one, titled “What Is Open Source Software (OSS) and What Is Big Data?” and chapter two, “Open Source Software (OSS) for Big Data.”

Research by Pace-Glover is Published Research by Pace-Glover is Published

An article by Dr. Tamara Pace-Glover, assistant professor of social work, was published in the Journal of the National Association of University Women. Her research article, "African American Single Mothers Rearing Their Children in Today’s Society," explores several of the major factors that have contributed to the success of African American single mothers who have reared academically accomplished children.

 
Juárez-Aubry to Present on Pint of Science

Dr. Maria Montserrat Juárez-Aubry, professor of physics and mathematics, Campus Queretaro, is an invited speaker for Pint of Science in Mexico. She will speak this evening at about 7 p.m. on Facebook live. Her topic, "Monsters with temperature: Exploring black hole thermodynamics," will include a discussion of general concepts of black hole thermodynamics, including why black holes are not completely black, and basic aspects of the holographic theory.

Jenkins Selected to Present Research in Spain Jenkins Selected to Present Research in Spain

Dr. Derek M. Jenkins, assistant professor of music theory and composition, was selected to present in July at the International Society for Research and Promotion of Wind Music (IGEB) international conference in Valencia, Spain. His presentation is on the Iowa band law, which aided in the financial support of municipal bands throughout Iowa and the country, from the 1920s until the present day.
