Staff Senate Cites Five Employees as 'Second 100' Award Recipients

Five staff members whose job performance at Arkansas State University has been judged exemplary by their peers are being added to the Staff Wall of Honor. The Staff Senate will honor the five, the first group added since the initial 100 were recognized in 2009, at a public reception Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge, Reng Student Union. Nikki Turner, president of Staff Senate, announced the recognition. Here are brief highlights about each honoree and their service to Arkansas State.

 
Phareta Calkin, Printing Services Phareta Calkin, Printing Services

Phareta Calkin, institutional printer in Printing Services and a staff member since 1977, is "extremely dedicated, quality-focused and dependable." That applies both to her primary duties at the Print Shop, where she is cited for her design and printing skills, and at the Athletics Department, where she volunteered as a statistician and in other capacities for 33 years.  Calkin also served on the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and Staff Senate.

 
Angela Daniels, Campus Life

Angela Daniels is technology director for Campus Life in Student Affairs.  A staff member since 1999, she has overseen the installation of software systems for various departments and kept computers running for numerous staff and students. Daniels has served as president of Staff Senate and chair of the Shared Governance Oversight Committee.  Her nominator said "She always advocates for meeting the needs of students in all of her work."

Dotty Foley, Procurement Services Dotty Foley, Procurement Services

Dotty Foley, who is being recognized posthumously, joined the staff in 1965 at age 18. She served students in the Registrar's Office for many years, then worked in Men's Basketball. Foley was a Procurement Services employee at the time of her death in 2011. "Everyone on campus knew Dotty and loved her enthusiasm and kind-hearted spirit," her nominator said. She a member of the first Staff Senate and was very devoted to A-State.

 
Jerrod Lockhart, Student Support Services

Jerrod Lockhart, director of Student Support Services in University College, came to A-State as a student and has continued to work for his alma mater in many capacities. A full-time staff member since 2000, Lockhart was cited for his professionalism and leadership while mentoring colleagues and for his guidance with undergraduate students in personal development programs.  His nominator said, "He is a true advocate and champion for all students."

Dave McKinney, Parking Services Dave McKinney, Parking Services

Dr. David R. McKinney is one-of-a-kind . . . the first and only director of Parking Services. A staff member since 2002, he instills a spirit of courtesy and professionalism in his staff, who keep order among thousands of students and employees who park vehicles on campus. Known for "living the mission" of Parking Services, he took permit process from bubble sheets to online. He also served as Staff Senate president.
