New Distinguished Faculty to be Named; Association Plans Recognition and Reception New Distinguished Faculty to be Named; Association Plans Recognition and Reception

The Faculty Association will host its annual holiday gathering Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Cooper Alumni Center. The association's Historical Committee will recognize 31 former professors who will be added to the Distinguished Faculty Wall of Honor. The Faculty Association will announce names of the newly selected honorees this week. All faculty, the honorees, their families and friends, and previously named Distinguished Faculty are invited to the ceremony at 4 p.m. and reception at 5 p.m.

 
Hawkins Receives Community Development Award

Arkansas State University and Dr. Ruth Hawkins, executive director of Arkansas Heritage Sites, have been recognized for efforts in community and economic development by the Arkansas Community Development Society (ACDS) during the organization’s annual conference. A-State received the “Friend of ACDS” award, which is based on a body of work that has strengthened Arkansas communities. Hawkins and assistant director Paula Miles were recognized by the educational nonprofit organization.

Governor Appoints Manning to State Group Governor Appoints Manning to State Group

Gov. Mike Beebe has appointed Veronica Manning, clinical coordinator in the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, to the Medical Ionizing Radiation Licensure Committee. The appointment represents A-State's continuing involvement with this regulatory group; her predecessor on the committee is Ray Winters, department chair. Previously she has been featured in a faculty spotlight video.

 
NSCS Cites Brady for Dedication to Students

Linda Brady, instructor in criminology and sociology, received the National Society of Collegiate Scholars distinguished member award for exemplifying NSCS's goals of service, leadership and pursuit of academic achievement through her service as a faculty member. Students who nominated Brady cited her continuous dedication to the those she serves and making sure that they understand the classroom material she presents.
