Description

The Cardiac Sonography Program is designed to produce competent and compassionate
entry-level sonographers for the practice of cardiac sonography. The Healthcare track is designed for applicants who have an associate’s degree in healthcare (i.e. Sonography, Radiologic Technology, Nursing, etc.). Upon completion of the cardiac sonography certificate students are prepared to sit for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) examinations in sonography principles & instrumentation and Adult Echocardiography.

  • Prerequisites

    BSRS DMS graduate or credentialed sonographer

    Requires the documentation of 6 months full time cardiac sonography experience.  Experience may be obtained concurrently with the didactic portion of the program.

    The following general education must also be complete in the event they had not been completed for the initial degree:

    BIO 2203 Anatomy & Physiology I
    BIO 2201 Lab for Anatomy & Physiology

    BIO 2223 Anatomy & Physiology II
    BIO 2221 Lab for Anatomy & Physiology II

    PHYS 2133 Survey of Physics for Health Professions or PHYS 2054 General Physics

    MATH 1023 College Algebra


    Communications Skills: can be meet with a variety of courses including English, speech, or composition.
    Examples include:
    SCOM 1203 Speech Communications
    ENG 1003 Composition I
    ENG 1013 Composition II
    PHIL 1103 Intro to Philosophy
    PHIL 1503 Logic and Practical Reasoning

  • Admission Process
    1. Apply to Arkansas State University.
    2. Determine whether you meet the Admission Requirements for the DMS Cardiac Certificate program.
    3. Download the application.
    4. Download the application check sheet and follow the directions.
    5. Submit completed application by November 30th.

    Selection of students will be based upon the following:
        Cumulateive grade point average
        Documentation of experience

    The above criteria are converted to a point system. Selection preference is given to those who have graduated from a sonography program, and those currently working full time in the field of cardiac sonography.
