Description

The graduate certificate in healthcare emergency management is an interdisciplinary program that prepares professionals to effectively meet the demands of disaster preparedness, mitigation, planning, response and recovery. The program requires 18 hours of graduate-level courses related to disaster health. Hours completed in fulfillment of a prior degree cannot be counted toward certificate requirements. Hours completed in the certificate program, however, can be applied toward the MS degree in Disaster Preparedness and  Emergency Management. Students may transition from the certificate program to the MS program with permission of the graduate faculty.

    • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
    • ICS -- 100 (comparable to associated country)
    • ICS – 200 (comparable to associated country)
    • ICS – 700 (comparable to associated country)
    • ICS – 800 (comparable to associated country)
    • CDLS (Core Disaster Life Support)
    • BDLS (Basic Disaster Life Support)
    • TB Skin test
    • TB mask fit test
    • Health Care Provider CPR Card
    • Liability Insurance

     

  • Admission Process

    Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School. To apply, obtain an application form from Graduate Admissionsl. Send completed application form, required application fee, and official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work to Graduate Admissions. Students wishing to complete the certificate must meet the same prerequisites as for the MS degree in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management. Students interested in pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Emergency Management must schedule a personal interview with a MS adviser.

    Continued admission to the certificate program is conditioned upon completion of prerequisite course(s) required, and acceptance by the disaster preparedness and emergency management agencies. Some of these agencies will require a background check.

     APPLICATION INFORMATION

    Class size is limited and all applicants may not be accepted into the program. Interested individuals are encouraged to seek an advisor early in their college career to ensure that all prerequisite courses are completed in a timely manner.

    Continued admission to this certificate program is conditioned upon completion of prerequisite course(s) required, and acceptance by disaster preparedness and emergency management agencies for practicum experiences.  Some of these agencies may require a background check.

    COURSES OFFERED AS 7 WEEK   MODULES

    Each of the courses in the Healthcare Emergency Management Graduate Certificate are offered over 7 weeks within the regularly scheduled modules of the Master of Science in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management. Students can enter the certificate program in any  module. Typically, one course for the certificate requirements is offered in each module. Each module will be 7 weeks duration.
