Description

The Master of Science in Health Science (MSHS) is a non-discipline specific, generic degree that allows practicing professionals, who are current members of the healthcare workforce, to advance their education.  The MSHS degree was designed as an opportunity for career advancement for professional individuals posessing leadership skills, discipline and initiative.  The core curriculum, plus one Graduate Certificate, allows the learner to tailor a graduate program that meets his or her individual needs while continuing employment in their respective field.  Holders of the degree will have a unique advantage to assume positions of responsibility and leadership in the rapidly changing health care delivery system.

The MSHS, with the various Graduate Certificates, was designed to exhance the existing healthcare work force, particulary in the areas of healthcare, health sciences education, aging studies, helath care management, and addiction studies. 


  • Admission Process

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

    Students may be admitted unconditionally, conditionally or as a non-degree seeking student.

    Unconditional Admission Status:

    The student must:

    • Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionaly accaredited college or university.
    • Have a GPA of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate or 2.75 overall.
    • Current healthcare employment.

    Conditional Admission Status:

    An applicant who fails to meet the GPA requirements for Unconditional Admission Status or whose background degree is from a college or university lacking appropriate accreditation, may be granted Conditional Admissional Status after following the steps detailed in the ASU Graduate Bulleting.

    A Student will not be considered for admission to a graduate program until such time as the student completes 12 graduate semester hours, has a minimum GPA of 3.0 on those 12 hours, has no more than one course in the 12 hours with a grade of "C", and meets unconditional or program admission requirements.

    Admissions as a Graduate Nondegree Student:

    This option is for those seeking personal development, or those fulfilling professional renewal requirements and are seeking a Graduate Certificate in one or more of the Programs's specialty areas of study.

    Curriculum

    The Master of Science in Health Sciences degree consists of a minimum core of 21 semester hours beyond the Bachelor's degree and a 21 semester hour graduate certificate option (Health Sciences Education or Aging Studies or Health Care Management - see program descriptions below).

    For completion of the MSHS degree, students are required to take the MSHS core courses (15 hrs.) and complete either a thesis (6 hrs.) or an internship (6 hrs.).  In conjunction with, and as part of, the core courses, students are required to complete the requirements for at least one graduate certificate. Graduate certificate options are Aging Studies (21 hrs.), Health Science Education (21 hrs.), Addiction Studies (21 hrs.), or Health Care Management (18 hrs.).
