Dr. Juli Buxbaum

Assistant Professor of Horn

Biography

Dr. Juli Buxbaum is the Assistant Professor of Horn at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas where she works with applied horn students, teaches graduate writing classes, conducts chamber music and horn ensembles, and performs as a member of the Arkansas State Faculty Brass and Woodwind Quintets. Dr. Buxbaum is also the state representative for the International Horn Society in Arkansas. 

As a professional musician, Dr. Buxbaum has freelanced and taught extensively. Orchestral engagements include fourth horn with The Jackson Symphony and appearances with the Arkansas Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Wichita Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tucson Symphony, West Valley Symphony, and Scottsdale Philharmonic. She has previously been principal horn with two theater companies in Phoenix, Arizona, the Arizona Broadway Theater and Scottsdale Musical Theater Company. 

An avid chamber musician, Dr. Buxbaum is a founding member of Bantam Winds, a mobile ensemble with oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and horn as well as a trio for trumpet, horn, and piano called Nordestrio. Nordestrio has recently recorded a CD celebrating new compositions by Brazilian composers titled Braziliana that was released in Spring 2022 and received a Silver Medal in the Global Music Awards. Dr. Buxbaum has also toured with various chamber groups internationally in Japan, Switzerland, and in Germany, where she serves as faculty for the Saarburger Serenaden Music Festival. Solo accomplishments include placing as a semi-finalist in the university division of the International Horn Competition of America. 

Juli received both a DMA (2018) and MM (2016) in Horn Performance from Arizona State University and holds a BM (2014) in Music Education from Oklahoma State University. Her primary teachers include Lanette Lopez-Compton and Dr. John Ericson.
