Biography
Dr. Myers completed her Ph.D. in 2009 from the University of Arizona. Her emphasis area is gender and the family, with a focus on low-income fathers. Her research focuses on how men negotiate relationships with multiple sets of children. She has published three papers in the area of low-income fathers. The first found that low-income fathers tend to prioritize a small subset of their children in order to maximize their impact. Her second used Foucauldian theory to investigate how these men comply with or resist government surveillance. A third looks at how they define good fathering and finds that they use a novel model of good fathering that does not use breadwinning or caregiving as a measure of quality. Dr. Myers has also published about gender differences in foster parent satisfaction, food deserts, and teaching. In 2013, she received Arkansas State University's Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Myers lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
