Ms. James was born and raised in Houston, Texas and speaks Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. She earned her MA in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin (UT). She has taught Spanish and Portuguese at UT and taught high school Spanish online (via Skype) to high-school students residing in rural areas of Oklahoma.
Her linguistic interests revolve around linguistic variation, sociolinguistics and grammaticalization particularly in the Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese language. Her master’s thesis focused on the Politeness Theory (Brown & Levinson, 1987) in Spanish-speaking chat rooms. Ms. James enjoys sharing her love for languages, traveling internationally, cooking, learning new languages (Korean is her language du jour!), dancing (salsa, merengue, and bachata), and hiking.
