Biography

Dr. Owens teaches Spanish classes focused primarily on oral proficiency and coordinates the teacher education programs in world languages, which involves teaching classes and supervising the field experiences of students who are preparing to become language teachers.

Having created our department’s summer study abroad program in Costa Rica, she was its faculty director for 9 years. She currently serves as a certified oral proficiency tester in Spanish through ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Named director of the A-State Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2021, she divides her time between that center and our department.

When not on campus, she enjoys playing tennis, bicycling, kayaking, traveling, and reading.
