The Master of Science in Nursing in Nurse Anesthesia is a 28-month, 85-credit hour, full time program that prepares registered nurses for entry into nurse anesthesia practice.  Upon completion of the prgram, graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination adminstered by the National Board for Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.  Satisfactory performance is necessary in order to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.


  • Prerequisites


    Admission Requirements:

     

    • A Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a nationally accredited college or university
    • Completed application to the Graduate School and Nurse Anesthesia Program
    • Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 overall or 3.0 on the last 60 hours
    • Graduate level descriptive and inferential statistics
    • Current unrestricted/unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse
    • Two years of critical care experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care area with emphasis on interpretation and use of advanced hemodynamic monitoring techniques, psychomotor skills and independent decision making
    • CCRN or CSC required
    • Current BCLS, ACLS and PALS certification

  • Additional Information

    The Nurse Anesthesia Program begins annually in January.  Applications are received continually, and applications should be made 12-16 months in advance of anticipated start date in January.

    NOTE:  Candidates who are accepted into the program may take the following core courses prior to entry into the Nurse Anesthesia Program:

    *NURS 6103 Research Design and Methodolgy - 3 CR
    *NURS 6203 Theory Development in Nursing - 3 CR

    The Nurse Anesthesia Program offers a full scope of practice and educational experiences with clinical sites in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
