Dr. Lillie M. Fears is the founder and host of the College of Communications annual televised panel on diversity and multicultural issues in the media. The author of several peer-reviewed articles, which include queries of black women's portrayals in print news media content, she is co-author of the book, Social Responsibility and Science News: Four Case Studies.
A member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, Fears was elected to the association's Profession Freedom and Responsibility Committee in 2009. Her service to the Association also includes having served as head of the Minorities in Communications Division and as a member of the Strategic Design and Implementation teams. In addition, she has served as head of the Gender Studies Division of the Southern States Communication Association and as a member of the Arkansas Professional Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists Board.
Fears' list of fellowships include working as a researcher with the U.S. Air Force Laboratory at Brooks-City Base (San Antonio); the National Endowment for the Humanities Black Film Institute at University of Central Florida in Orlando, the Sasakawa Japanese Studies Institute at University of San Diego; and at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
An avid community and public school volunteer, Fears is also a director on the Arkansas Humanities Council Board and a member of the Greater Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce.
