Prior to joining the College of Communications at ASU, Rawlins was the Chair of the Department of Communications at Brigham Young University from 2008-2012. Before joining the faculty at BYU in 2000, he taught for eight years at James Madison University.
He was recently elected to the Accreditation Committee of the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Education. He also serves as a member of the Institute for Public Relations Commission on Measurement and Evaluation, on the board for the International Public Relations Research Conference, and has been an active member of the Public Relations Division of AEJMC and the Educators Academy of PRSA.
He serves or has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Public Relations Research, Public Relations Journal, Case Studies in Public Relations, and the Journal of Communication Management.
He has published several articles on public relations ethics, transparency, authenticity, trust and stakeholder management. In 2003 he was recognized by the Institute of Public Relations with the Pathfinder Award.
He is married to Patricia (Trish) Rawlins and has five children.
