Kevin Spangler (RTV '05) is now working at Encompass Digital Media as a TOC Specialist in Atlanta, GA. This is the second time he has been with this company, but the first time as an EIC on a portable Earth Station.

Katherine Shurlds (JOUR '69) has been named Journalism Educator of the Year by the Arkansas Press Association.  She teaches in the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was the director of the Lemke Journalism Project for 13 years.

November 2013

Adam Crisler (RTV '08) has moved to Memphis to transfer from KAIT-TV 8 to her sister station, WMC. 

Gretchen Hunt (JOUR '98) has just been named 2013 Woman of the Year by Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.

 

October 2013

Marsha (Mays)Carwell (RTV '05) works for ASU Alumni Association as the Director of Alumni Membership. She is married to Brett who farms and they have one daughter, Carson who is 15 months old.

 

Patty Henson-Sullivan (RTV '81) has just taken a new position in the Global Engagement Office at Walton College of Business at University of Arkansas supporting students and faculty programs around the world.

 

Robert Tabern (RTV '01) has just taken a new position as the dayside Assignment Editor for WTMJ-TV Channel 4, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The historic studios of WTMJ are housed in the first building in the country specifically built (1941) for radio and television broadcasting. Robert and his wife, Kandace are also managers of the brand new Trails & Rails program on Amtrak's Southwest Chief between Chicago, Illinois and La Plata, Missouri. Trails & Rails is sponsored by the National Park Service and features volunteer rangers aboard trains to present interpretive programs to passengers.

 

September 2013

Hannah Burney (JOUR '04) has taken a position as a graphic designer with PatientPoint located in Little Rock, AR.  She had been with Arkansas Democrat-Gazette since 2006.

 

Brandon Morris (JOUR '08) will be speaking October 17, 2013 on "Who Responds When Disaster Strikes?" in the Wilson Hall Auditorium.  He will be visiting some of the classes in the College of Media and Communication on October 16th.

 

Edith Taylor (RTV ' 05) has just taken a position on the writing team for FOX & FRIENDS in New York City.  She left Fox 13 in Memphis to take this position.

 

Jane Todd (RTV '98) has taken a position as Human Resources Manager at Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas and is the Assistant Office Manager at VPI Property Management, LLC. 

 

Dana (Hoggard) Watkins (SCOM '95, MA '97) and Steve Watkins (JOUR '88, MSMC '04) are buying a house in Ecuador and will be featured on an upcoming "House Hunters International" on October 3, at 9:30 p.m. They will be living part-time in Ecuador working on projects there.  They would like to work with missionaries while they live there and feel they are learning a new way of life and and new view of life.

 

August 2013

Libby Anderson (RTV '03) continues to live and work in Los Angeles, CA in freelance production on features, commercials, and music videos. Currently finishing up her tenth feature film, working as the Production Supervisor. Still works as an APOC and Production Coordinator, depending on the scope of the project. Received her first Associate Producer credit recently, which the product is now in post production.

 

July 2013

Beth Bright (JOUR '12) was hired in January 2013 as a staff writer and photographer for The Sentinel-Record in her hometown of Hot Springs.  Hot Springs being the tourist community that it is, she covers news that would appeal to the many visitors to Hot Springs as well as general assignments.   

 

Rachel Carner (JOUR '13) was hired in early July as a reporter/photographer for the Paragould Daily Press.  She covers general assignments as well as takes pictures across Greene County.  She is engaged to her high school sweetheart and long-time Red Wolf fan, Ryan Simpson and plans to be married in early 2014.

 

Shannon O'Nale (RTV '11) is living in Orange, California. She has taken a position as the Marketing Coordinator at Rosary High School which is an all-girl college-preparatory high school in Fullerton, California. She works in the Advancement department and oversees graphic design, multimedia and communications as well as fundraising events. She is enjoying using many of the skills she learned as a student here at ASU and is very thankful to the faculty who taught her with a special thank you to Mr Collin Pillow!

 

Steve Sullivan (RTV '82) was inducted as a sportscaster, into the Arkansas Sportscaster-Sportswriter Hall of Fame at the seventh-annual Arkansas Sportscaster-Sportswriter Hall of Fame banquet at the Centennial Country Club in Conway.  He joins past inductees Paul Eels, Bud Campbell, Jim Elder, Pat Summerall, Frank Broyles and Mike Harrison. He has been a sportscaster for 30 years, including 14 years at KATV.  He has been named Arkansas Sportscaster of the year three times and has won the AP Best Sportscast Award 13 times at KATV. The Arkansas Activities Association honored him with it's Distinguished Media Member Award.

June 2013 

Mark Carlson (RTV '86) is living in Minnesota.  He just recently started to work for Wells Fargo.  He has worked the last seven years in Business to Business. He eldest son will be a senior in High School this fall.

 

Cody Dertow (RTV '13) is the new Sports and Community Director for East Arkansas Broadcasters in Stuttgart. (Stations 97.3/106.9, 105.5/102.5, 102.7/1240AM). He is also the voice of Stuttgart High School Basketball and Baseball, run Friday Night Football postgame show. He conducts interviews and gathers news for sports/news reports on the radio newscast.

 

May 2013 

Sarah Campbell (JOUR '11) is at staff writer at The Leader in Jacksonville, AR since May 2011. She covers a variety of beats and often takes photos as well as writes stories for this bi-weekly publication. It is a family-owned, locally operated newspaper that covers North Pulaski, Lonoke and White Counties in Arkansas. It's been independent and locally owned since 1987 and was named Arkansas' Best Large Weekly in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

 

Brittany Reese (JOUR '11 MSMC '13) is working at Arkansas Minority Health Commission and is doing photography and writing stories for newsletters.  She is enjoying assisting with Public Health Care Forums.

 

Mickey Ryan (RTV '92) has been named the Red Wolves' Associate Athletics Director for External Relations beginning in June. He brings over 20 years of experience in sales, broadcasting and marketing with him to ASU. In this position with ASU he will supervise marketing, multi-media, ticket sales, promotions, fan experience, social media(marketing and sales) and special events.

Ricky Adamson (MSMC '08) is very excited he is graduating in May from University of Arkansas with his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Foreign and Second Language Education.

 


Littice Bacon-Blood (JOUR '90) has been named as a legislative relief reporter in Louisiana. She will be based in Baton Rouge and will work with Correspondent Melinda Deslatte on coverage of state government during the upcoming session of the Louisiana Legislature. She is a former reporter and a suburban bureau chief for The Times-Picayune and previously worked as reporter for the Sun Herald newspaper in Mississippi.

 

Carol Langston (JOUR '85) has been named executive assistant to the president and development officer at Ozarka College in Melbourne.  Previously, she served as vice president for college advancement and executive assistant to the president at Pulaski Technical College in Little Rock. She has relocated to her hometown of Salem.

 

Staci (Burch) Lindblad (JOUR '97) is now communications manager at Suburban Hospital in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

 

Jennifer (Bartelt) Rorex (RTV '06) is an Account Manager at Staffmark in Jonesboro, AR.  She and her husband, Rodney recently welcomed their second child, Raegan Jolie in January of 2013.  She joins a brother Brody.

 

Blake Russell (RTV '92) is receiving a very prestigious technology award at NAB this week as a VP with Nexstar.

Dana J. Callaway-Smith (MSMC'02) got married on October 22, 2011.  She began in her new position as the Communications/Student Recruitment Specialist at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Office of Recruitment in January 2013.

Robernetta C. Ferrell (MSMC '04) is a paralegal at Stanley Law Firm.  She is currently living in Jonesboro with her daughter.

Janice Kay (Emery) Bonds (JOUR '84) owns a boutique resort, Guanaja Caribbean Cottages Resort on the island of Guanaja, Bay Islands, Honduras.

 

Andrea Finney (RTV '12) has accepted the position as Morning Associate Producer at KARK-TV in Little Rock, AR.

  

Jessica Guy (RTV '12) has taken the position as Weekend Producer for WTVM-TV in Columbus, GA.

 

Allison Munn (RTV '12) has been promoted to 10 pm Anchor at KAIT-TV in Jonesboro, AR.

 

Yvette Whiteside (RTV '05) is  a reporter for WPTY-TV, ABC 24 in Memphis, TN.

Bobby Sisk (RTV '95) has taken a position as weekend evening anchor at CBS O and O WBZ TV in Boston.  He is living in Brookline, MA.

Pamela Bailey Bowie (MSMC '06) is the program manager for the Arkansas Cancer Coalition in Little Rock and is the assistant director for admissions at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

 

Scott Christian (JOUR '98) recently accepted the position of publications specialist at Arkansas Hospice after working for 13 years as a page designer at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He and his wife, Jill, live in Little Rock.

 

Maegan Clark (JOUR '07) is a Digital Communications Specialist with focus on Social Media at Heifer International in Little Rock, AR. 

 

Erika Madlock Conley (MSMC '06) is the Communications Coordinator at Memphis Theological Seminary. 

 

Ronald L Evans (RTV ’70) is living with his wife in BELLA VISTA, AR.

 

Jessie Walker Glover (SCOM ’06) is an Academic Advisor for Northwest Arkansas Community College and graduated in May ’11 with her M.Ed in Higher Education.  She and her husband welcomed a son in November, 2010. They are living in Rogers, Arkansas.

 

Sherry John Grigg (RTV ’83) accepted a position teaching Video Production at Seoul American High School in South Korea. 

 

Stephanie Bolding Hopkins (JOUR ’88)is self-employed as Director of Junior and Women’s Golf Program , Arkansas State Golf Association living at Maumelle, AR.

 

Deleisa Bailey Johnson (JOUR '89) is an affiliate marketing associate for East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System in Tyler, Texas. In her position, she oversees the marketing and public relations efforts of six of the system's 15 hospitals. She, her husband, Jeff, and daughter, Caroline, reside in Tyler.

 

Matthew Johnson (RTV ’06) is a Promotions Producer at KARK Channel 4 in Little Rock.

 

Tom Kaemmerling (RTV ’78) is President of LakeTek, LLC, manufacturer of the Dock Torpedo portable, inflatable, fender system for watercraft. He was granted a United States utility patent for the fender in May of 2010. A separate design patent is pending. Tom and wife, Debbie reside in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

 

Casey Finley Keeney (RTV ’03) is a Medical Device Sales Representative for Applied Medical. She is living in North Little Rock.

 

Kristy Kilgore (RTV ’96)is working in Customer Service at Windstream Telecom in Jasper, Arkansas. She has written her first novel and gotten a contract to get it published. My novel, “Racetrack Romance”, should be on bookstore shelves in mid- 2012.

 

Emily Mantz(JOUR ’09) is now living in Washington, D.C. and working for Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) as his Scheduler.

 

Catherine Holiman Morgan (JOUR ’07) is employed by East Arkansas Broadcasters. She can be heard every afternoon as on-air personality Cate Morgan on 107.9 KFIN.

 

Kevin Morris (RTV ’09) is a Customer Service Support Manager for AT&T in Omaha Nebraska. He handles all the AT&T Small Business Accounts for the West Region (California, Washington State, Nevada).

 

Bill Powers (RTV ’84) is an Assistant Athletic Director / External Operations at MIDWESTERN STATE UNIVERSITY in Wichita Falls, Texas.

 

Jennifer Bartelt  Rorex (RTV '06) is currently an Advertising Sales Representative for The Jonesboro Sun. She lives in Jonesboro with her husband, Rodney and son, Brody.

 

Courtney Rowe (JOUR ’05) serves as Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.

 

Jerry Ryan (RTV ’66) is now living in Nolensville, Tennessee with his wife Judy.  He had a successful career as a Naval Public Affairs Officer.

 

Joel Shaw (JOUR ’99) is Associate General Counsel at Allsup, Inc. in the St. Louis area. His practice is now in the area of corporate law.  He lives with his wife and son in Oakland, Missouri.

 

Kirkley Thomas (JOUR ’90) has been named to the Board of Directors of the Rector Helping Hands Foundation and to the ASU-Jonesboro Chancellor’s Cabinet and works as a Manager, Economic Development at Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

 

Stephanie Burkhead Thum (RTV '93) is Vice President of Customer Experience at Export-Import Bank of the United States in Washington, D.C.

 

William Calvin Timbs (RTV '86) joined Zurich North America Insurance Co. in February 2010. He manages insurance portfolios for automobile dealerships in Mississippi. He and his wife Teri reside in Southaven, MS.

 

Tylee Tracer (JOUR ’10) joined the staff of The Daily Press as a general assignment reporter.

 

Tiffany Tull  (SCOM ’06) joined ERA Doty Real Estate in October, 2011 as a licensed real estate agent. She and her husband, Spencer is expecting their second child in June, 2012 and have a 4 year old daughter, Isabella.

 

Joe Turner (JOUR ’62) is living in Quincy, Florida.  He is a Consultant/President  of Ternir Group- Romania. He was recently inducted into the ASU Football Hall of Fame.

 

Bob Woody (RTV ’70) was recently inducted into North Louisiana Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Stephanie Fischer (JOUR '06) is the editor of the Stuttgart Daily Leader in Stuttgart, AR.  

Shane Carter (RTV '00) has been promoted to Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR.  Carter has been employed with AMMC since 2007 and is responsible for the medical center's retirement community, foundation, governmental relations, marketing/public relations, and special events.  In addition to his education at ASU, Carter holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University.  He was also recently honored as the recipient of The Early Career Healthcare Executive Regent's Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives.  The honor recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed toward the advancement of healthcare management excellence.

David Keith (JOUR '81) has graduated with a master's degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  He has been a faculty member at the University of Central Arkansas for the past five years.  His wife, Tammy Smith Keith (JOUR '84) is a reporter and columnist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and a writer for Arkansas Life magazine.

Donna Britt (RTV major in the early '80s) is a writer and producer for ABC Radio Networks' American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks in Nashville, Tenn. Her award-winning career most recently included voiceover, imaging, narration and creative writing for Clear Channel, Time-Warner and Maverick Publishing.

Sara Graves (MSMC '09) ) is executive director for the downtown rehabilitation initiative in Kennett, Mo.

Monika Grundy (RTV '08) ) has joined WCRV AM 640 in Memphis. The station is part of Bott Radio Network, a Christian talk radio group.

Tabitha Christian Inboden (Jour '07) works for Wynne-based Erwin-Keith Inc./Progeny Ag Products. She is a sale representative for Texas and Oklahoma and also directs marketing and advertising.

Mike James (MSMC '85) has been named director of Harding University's international program in Athens, Greece. He had been dean of the College of Communications at Harding.

Clint Lewellyn (RTV '06) is a traffic assistant for Fox 16 and CW Arkansas. He lives in Little Rock.

Matt Johnson (RTV '06) is production coordinator for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. He produces commercials and content for the lottery Website.

Jay Richards (RTV '88) works as operations supervisor with Comcast Media Center in Littleton, Colo. He joined Comcast in 2003. The media center is the uplink facility for Comcast.

Aaron Sadler (Jour '99) is press secretary for Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel in Little Rock. Sadler formerly worked for the Jonesboro Sun, Stephens Media bureaus in Washington, D.C. and Little Rock and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.

Mickey Smith (RTV '85) is an assistant sports information director at Saint Louis University.

Ludovic A. Sourdot (RTV '98) is an assistant professor in the teacher education program at Texas Woman's University in Denton. He earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction at Texas A&M University (College Station).

Stephanie Thum (RTV '93) has joined Armstrong Teasdale LLP in St. Louis as the law firm's first director of client relations. Her 21 years of business experience includes eight years in client relations and business development at Ernst & Young. She is a nationally published writer on customer service, social media, health care, construction, energy and environmental topics.

Libby Anderson (RTV '03) is wrapping up production work on her fourth feature film, "The Conspirator," directed by Robert Redford. Still based in Los Angeles, she works as a production coordinator on television commercials, viral/webisodes and music videos between film projects.

Sara Bing (SCom '05, Com Studies '06) is an enrollment specialist at North Arkansas College in Harrison and an adjunct faculty member teaching Oral Communication at Northark.

Cynthia (Fulton) Bond (Jour '87) is a research associate at the Jones Eye Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Cynthia and her husband, Kris, live in White Hall.

Anthony Childress (Jour '08) is covering secondary education for The Jonesboro Sun. He previously was Craighead County beat reporter for The Sun. He has a son, Alec, who is a sports management major at ASU.

Waylon Harris (Jour '06) has been named as editor of the Log Cabin Democrat media company in Conway. He had been managing editor since 2007/ He succeeds Rick Fahr, who was promoted to publisher earlier this month.

Brooksie Felty Hartness (Jour '03) operates her own real estate business, IMAGE Realty in Paragould. IMAGE is a full service office, including residential, commercial, industrial, land sales and consulting. She is married to Richard Hartness Jr., a BA and MBA graduate of ASU.

Keia Johnson (RTV '04) competed on American Idol and was among a group selected to go to Hollywood. She is a marketing representative in Memphis.

Chad Kruizenga (Jour '91) is marketing manager for the Christian Reformed Church of North American. He lives in Zeeland, Mich.

Larry McDermott (Jour '70) has retired as publisher of The Republican of Springfield, Mass. He became publisher of The Republican in 1999. He previously served as executive editor of the paper and publisher of The Bay City (Mich.) Times.

Kevin Morris (RTV '09) is working as the morning news producer at KOLN/KGIN news in Lincoln, Neb.

Myra Surrat (RTV '94) has been with Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta for 10 years. She reports she is moving into project management within traffic/media operations for the entertainment division.

Sam Pierce (Jour '09) is the assistant sports editor at the Benton Courier.

Sylvia Ramsey (MA SCom '86) is associate professor of speech communication at Georgia Military College-Augusta in Martinez, Ga.

Laurie Smalling (RTV '98) is director of business strategy for Walmart's public affairs and government relations team. She lives in Rogers.

Calvin Timbs (RTV '86) is regional manager for Automobile Protection Corporation in Norcross, Ga. He previously was a regional sales manager with Fort Motor Credit Company in Orlando, Fla. He and his wife,Terrie, reside in Southaven, Miss.
