Dr. Ralph Ruby Jr. has been a professor in the College of Business at Arkansas State University since 1979.  He was at the University of Arkansas from 1976-1979 and taught at Valley Central High School from 1969 – 1976.  His research focuses on students.  How a student learns -- learning strategies and learning tools to help students improve their retention levels.  Ralph has recently, with Dr. Paula Ruby, created a note-taking app, My Classroom NotesTM.   My Classroom Notes has the patented functionality to decode abbreviations, initials and symbols using “Note-Taking Shorthand” as defined by Stanford University.  For the first time students can take notes just like a mobile court reporting professional or as a verbatim court reporting professional.  A major concern of students attending college is finances.  To help students reduce their education expenses Ralph has been involved with the development of two apps with Dr. Paula Ruby titled – ASTATE ACADEMIC KEYBOARDING CHAMP and ASTATE ACADEMIC TEXTING CHAMP.  These apps provide student “scholarships” using competitive gaming mobile technology for the first time at the university level.  A student mobile device being used to THEIR advantage – to directly help them with THEIR finances.  As part of this process Ralph and Paula raised over $10,000 in cash and awards including crystal trophies for the winners of the student ASTATE ACADEMIC KEYBOARDING and ASTATE ACADEMIC TEXTING CHAMPIONSHIPs as well as for the COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ACADEMIC KEYBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIP and COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ACADEMIC TEXTING CHAMPIONSHIPs for both student and faculty.
