Welcome to Arkansas State University!

The College of Agriculture & Technology has a number of scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in a degree plan within our college. All scholarships are for full-time students with a declared major in Agriculture or Technology and attending the ASU-Jonesboro campus. Criteria for each scholarship are listed below the title.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Deadline for ALL scholarship applications is  March 1, 2013.

Incoming freshman scholarship dealine is March 1, 2013 (will be considered fter this date). Please note: you must be a declared Agriculture major to qualify for these scholarships.

Students currently enrolled at ASU and with a declared Agriculture major wishing to apply for one of the many scholarships available in the College of Agriculture and Technology must complete the Current Student Scholarship Application.  

(Please note all of these applications are Adobe files and require Adobe Acrobat Reader to be viewed and completed.)

Your application packet must include:

  • Completed application form
  • Complete the application on-line and print it
  • Specify on the application ALL the scholarships you wish to apply for
  • Complete the application entirely
  • Current transcript (An unofficial transcript will be fine.)
  • Cover letter (2 page maximum) describing your area of study, goals and ambitions, high school/college leadership and activities, and financial need, if any. Since the requirements for each scholarship is different, please read them carefully and include all requested information. Failure to include needed information may disqualify you for a scholarship.
  • Once your application packet is ready, deliver it to the Ag Studies office, AG 219 or mail to: Scholarship Committee, PO Box 1080, State University, AR 72467. Application packets are due March 1, 2013.

Available Scholarships



The College of Agriculture & Technology (CoAT) has a number of privately funded scholarships available for students enrolled in a degree plan within our college.  All scholarships are for full-time students with a declared major in Agriculture or Technology and attending the ASU-Jonesboro campus.  
 
Academic Performance Scholarship (for FFA CDE 1st place winners)

1.  Must have been high school Jr. or Sr. when you won the event
2.  Must have won 1st place either as an individual or on a 1st place team
3.  Must enroll at ASU during your last high school semester
4.  Must be a declared Agriculture major in the College of Agriculture & Technology

Alpha Tau Alpha Scholarship

1.  Active membership in Alpha Tau Alpha at ASU-Jonesboro and Jr. or Sr. standing
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Active Participation in collegiate activities and campus organizations
4.  Membership in high school FFA or collegiate FFA
5.  Must have regular attendance record at ATA meetings and activities.
6.  Preference given to attendees of the ATA National Conclave.

Arkansas Flower and Garden Show Scholarship

1.  Student must be pursuing a career in horticulture, landscape architecture, or related fields
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Academic performance takes precedence over need

Arkansas Plant Food Educational Society Scholarship

1.  Pursuing a degree in Plant Science
2.  Any classification (Fr, Soph, Jr., or Sr.)
3.  GPA of 3.0 or higher
4.  Two awards of $1000 per academic year

Arkansas Seed Dealer Association

1.  Junior or senior Plant Science majors
2.  Must have a minimum GPA of 2.50
3.  Preference given to Arkansas resident

Arkansas State Federation of Farm Credit Stockholders Scholarship

1.  Sophomore through Senior agriculture majors
2.  Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75
3.  Must be a resident of the state of Arkansas

Arkansas State Plant Board Scholarship

1.  Plant Science majors
2.  Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
3.  Minimum classification of Sophomore

 ASU Museum Garden Club Scholarship

1.  Plant Science major with emphasis in Environmental Horticulture
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Must be a resident of Northeast Arkansas or Southeast Missouri.

 George A. Berger Memorial Scholarship

1.  Plant Science major
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Student may be any classification

G. Robert Blanchard Agricultural Scholarship

1.  Full-time Soph. or Jr. majoring in Agriculture.
2.  Minimum 2.75 overall GPA
3.  Must exhibit academic promise in agriculture and demonstrate potential to complete a degree.
4.  Campus leadership and activities considered as significant criteria.

Bill Edmondson Memorial Scholarship

1.  Must be a resident of Lawrence County, Arkansas
2.  Preference given to Agriculture majors
3.  Minimum 2.5 GPA

Katherine E. Franzen Scholarship

1.  Must be full-time student from Arkansas County
2.  Freshmen applicants must be in their 2nd semester at ASU-Jonesboro
3.  Minimum 2.5 GPA

James E. Gambill Memorial Scholarship

1.  Preference given to Brookland High School graduate majoring in agriculture.
2.  Financial need is considered.
3.  Second preference given to Craighead County

College of Agriculture General Freshman Scholarship

1.  Must be new first time incoming freshman.
2.  $500 Scholarship awarded to Crowley’s Ridge Classic Livestock Show first place winners .
3.  $500 CoAT Leadership Conference drawing winner.
4.  $500 scholarship to student with highest ACAT Senior exit exam score.
5.  As designated by the Dean
6.  Students who receive the Golightly Incoming Freshman Scholarship are NOT eligible.
7.  Students who receive the Chancellor’s Scholarship are NOT eligible.

Golightly Agriculture Scholarship

1.  Full-time incoming freshman (no more than 12 transferred hours).
2.  ACT of 23 or above OR upper 12% of high school class with minimum ACT of 19.

Golightly Upper Level Agricultural Scholarship

1.  Must be a full-time Sophomore or Junior majoring in Agriculture
2.  Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
3.  Financial need is a major consideration along with a commitment to a career in Agriculture.

Kelsey Hall/Brown Lacy Excellence in Agriculture Memorial Scholarship

1.  Full-time Jr. or Sr. Agriculture Business major.
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Must be a resident of the state of Arkansas
4.  Consideration shall be given on the basis of leadership capabilities, campus and community involvement, and financial need.

Dr. Al Langlois Scholarship

1.  Plant Science major with emphasis in Horticulture
2.  Any classification
3.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
4.  Financial need, leadership, and participation in extra-curricular activities considered.

Samuel S. Lipscomb Memorial Scholarship

1.  Incoming freshman Agriculture major or student from farm background majoring in any field.
2.  ACT of 27 or top 5% of high school class, or National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist.
3.  Preference given to students from Paragould and Marmaduke trade areas.
4.  Financial need considered.
5.  Cumulative GPA of 3.25 must be maintained
5.  Renewable for 8 semesters provided criteria is maintained and funds are available.

Little Rock Grain Exchange Scholarship

1.  Freshman or Sophomore majoring in AgriBusiness
2.  ACT of 21 or higher, or rank in upper half of an Arkansas high school graduating class.
3.  Award is $2,500 per academic year.

Joe McAlister Cache River Valley Seed Scholarship

1.  Two awards given to Plant Science majors
2.  Minimum 3.0 GPA

Dr. Olen P. Nail Scholarship (Sophomore)

1.  Agriculture major
2.  Minimum sophomore status with at least 30 credit hours and a 3.0 GPA.
3.  Preference given to student who demonstrates financial need.

John H. Neely & Irene N. Neely General Agriculture Scholarship

1.  Incoming freshman majoring in Agriculture
2.  Preference given to Jonesboro and Western Poinsett county area
3.  Minimum 3.0 overall GPA.
4.  Consideration of scholastic achievement, citizenship, and financial need.
5.  Recipient may NOT also be awarded the Neeley Plant Science Scholarship.


John H. Neely & Irene N. Neely Plant Science Scholarship

1.  Incoming freshman majoring in Plant Science.
2.  Preference given to Jonesboro and West Poinsett county area  
3.  Minimum 3.0 overall GPA.
4.  Consideration of scholastic achievement, interest in the study of plant science (particularly soybean and rice production) and financial need.
5.  Recipient may NOT also be awarded the Neeley General Agriculture Scholarship.
4.  Award is $3000 per academic year ($1500/semester) and renewable through the senior year if recipient continues to meet criteria and funds are available.

Ruel Nester Scholarship

1.  Preference given to a resident of the state of Arkansas
2.  Jr. or Sr. Majoring in agronomy, horticulture, entomology, or plant pathology and planning to pursue a career in pest management.
3.  GPA, leadership, financial need, and extracurricular activities considered.

Poinsett County Farm Bureau Scholarship

1.  Must be incoming freshman and a graduate of a Poinsett County high school.
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Preference given to students majoring in Agricultural Business.

Michael Lynn Smith Memorial Scholarship

1.  Must be incoming freshman and a graduate of a Poinsett County high school.
2.  Minimum 2.5 GPA
3.  Preference given to students majoring in Agricultural Business.

Sammie V. Wood Continuing Education Scholarship

1.  Must be a Graduate student majoring in Agriculture.
2.  Must be an Arkansas high school graduate or residing in border counties including areas with reciprocal tuition waivers.
