Biography

He is the chair of the Delta Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business who organizes the annual A-State Business Plan Competition and serves as academic advisor for the A-State teams who compete in the Donald W. Reynolds Governor's Cup. Also, he is the faculty in residence for the Honors Learning and Living Community. He comes from an entrepreneurial family who has run businesses in Guatemala, the U.S., and other countries over the last five generations.

For his efforts for leading the entrepreneurial activities, his involvement in the Honors College, and advising a team of 4 undergraduate students and 1 Master of Science student who won the Graduate Division of the Governor’s Cup in 2015, Dr. Chang won the Excellence in Service Awards at the University and College of Business level. Also, he is the 2016 C. Sam Walls Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year for the State of Arkansas.

His research has been published in top tier Academic Journals such as Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Research, Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Strategy, Journal of Development Entrepreneurship, Journal of Small Business Strategy, and Journal of Family Business Management. He serves in the editorial boards of Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Strategy, and Journal of Business Disciplines.

In addition, he was visiting faculty in Family Business at Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City. He resides in Guatemala City when school is not in session as he started a business with two of his friends from High School.

Before becoming an academic, he had an extensive corporate and entrepreneurial experience as well as became one of the most respected business and economist columnists in the Guatemalan media with more than 500 trade publications. His achievements include: Hispanic Achiever of 2009; Finalist for the 2008 NFIB Dissertation Award; the Triple Crown for PhD Student research awards at Mississippi State University in 2007; and a Fulbright scholarship from 1995-1997.
