- About ASU
History is a set of evolving rules and tools that allow us to interpret the past with clarity, rigor, and an appreciation for interpretative debate. It requires evidence, sophisticated use of information, and a deliberative stance to explain change and continuity over time. As a profoundly public pursuit, history is essential to active and empathetic citizenship and requires effective communication to make the past accessible to multiple audiences. As a discipline, history entails a set of professional ethics and standards that demand peer review, citation, and toleration for the provisional nature of knowledge.

Diverse career options
Many history and social studies majors enter careers in education as teachers or administrators. But history majors also work in a number of other professions, incorporating their writing, analytical, and research skills. Our graduates are employed as attorneys, ministers, editors, judges, librarians, counselors, business managers, professional historians, and non-profit directors. A number of our graduates have pursued advanced degrees in history, heritage studies, or law.
Whichever course you decide to follow, your degree will expand your knowledge base and provide a set of highly valued skills that will enrich your life.
Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.
