Program Overview

The Master of Science in Educational Theory and Practice offers educators an opportunity to improve their general understanding of curriculum theory and current practices. This program also assists candidates who wish to work toward National Board Certification. Within this master's degree, students focus on areas of learning that include:

ELSE 5733	Gifted Children in the Regular Classroom Focuses on classroom teachers' involvement in identification procedures and services for gifted, talented, and creative learners through differentiated curriculum and varied teaching strategies.
ELSE 6053	Educational Procedures for Individuals with Mild Disabilities Focuses on models for planning and delivering instruction to students with disabilities.
ELFN 6763	Philosophies of Education Focuses on various educational philosophies with emphasis on implications of their tenets on educational theory and practice.
ELAD 6003	School and Community Relations Focuses on concepts, programs, and procedures for establishing and maintaining positive relations between the school, its constituents, and related agencies.
ELCI 6063	Curriculum Management Focuses on perspectives, skills, and processes necessary for managing curriculum and formalizing the curriculum decision-making process.
ELCI 6533	Theories of Instruction Focuses on learning theories and various models of teaching.
ELFN 6773	Introduction to Statistics and Research Focuses on introductory statistical treatments, interpretation of research data, and methods and techniques of research.
ELCI 5803	Special Topics Workshop: Reflective Teaching Focuses on instructional best practices and on data-collecting techniques to enhance efficacy in teaching.
TE 6263	Teachers as Professionals: Working toward National Teaching Standards Focuses on applying the five core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in an examination of teaching practices
ELCI 5803	Special Topics Workshop: National Teaching Standards Capstone Experience Focuses on developing descriptive, analytical, and reflective writing in the preparation of the National Board portfolios and serves as the comprehensive assessment for graduating from the MSE in Theory and Practice.
