The purpose of the M.S.E. degree in Special Education - Instructional Specialist P-4 is to offer educators
an advanced performance-based program of study based on the recommendations of professional organizations and
accrediting associations such as the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and NCATE. Students completing this
program gain expertise in teaching students exhibiting developmental, learning and behavioral disabilities, and
in consulting with general education teachers who have students with disabilities in their classrooms.

Textbook Information
A subscription to Live Text
is required to create an electronic portfolio for certification, interact with class groups and exchange
key assignments with instructor. A one-time fee of $98 ensures the student access to Live Text for the
duration of their enrollment in the degree program. Students need to set up their Live Text account
once enrollment is complete and they are ready to begin their first class.
