Program Overview

The Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction is designed to prepare practicing teachers for licensure in such areas as a Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, or Gifted and Talented. Within this master's degree, students focus on areas of learning that include:

Enhancing leadership skills, dispositions, and practices
Evaluating and improving processes of curriculum development
Enriching instructional best practices
Developing tools for individuals to serve as professional curriculum specialists
Enhancing professional growth by emphasizing critical and analytical skills, communication and collaboration skills, and strong organizational and management skills

ELFN 6773	Introduction to Statistics and Research Focuses on introductory statistical treatments, interpretation of research data, and methods and techniques of research.
ELFN 6763	Philosophies of Education Focuses on various educational philosophies with emphasis on implications of their tenets on educational theory and practice.
ELAD 6103	Ethical Leadership Presents an overview of educational administration for practitioners within the context of ethical and professional behavior.
ELAD 6073	School Law Focuses on constitutional and statutory provisions and court decisions regarding the legal aspects of education.
ELAD 6003	School and Community Relations Focuses on concepts, programs, and procedures for establishing and maintaining positive relations between the school, its constituents, and related agencies.
ELCI 6533	Theories of Instruction Focuses on learning theories and various models of teaching.
ELCI 6083	Supervision and Evaluation of Teaching Combines attributes of supervising teaching with the formal aspects of teacher evaluation via emphasis on adult development, clinical supervision, and evaluation processes and models extant in public schools.
ELCI 6063	Curriculum Management Focuses on perspectives, skills, and processes necessary for managing curriculum and formalizing the curriculum decision-making process.
ELCI 6323	Elementary School Curriculum* Emphasizes the selection and organization of content, selection of instructional materials and activities, factors affecting curriculum revision, and current curricular issues in the modern elementary school.
ELCI 6423	Middle School Curriculum* Emphasizes the selection and organization of content, selection of instructional materials and activities, factors affecting curriculum revision, and current curricular issues in the modern middle school.
ELCI 6523	Secondary School Curriculum* Emphasizes the selection and organization of content, selection of instructional materials and activities, factors affecting curriculum revision, and current curricular issues in the modern secondary school.
ELCI 6493	Supervised Internship Focuses on authentic problems and clinical activities that require candidates to demonstrate leadership skills and practices integral to school leadership.
ELAD 6033	Administration and Supervision of Special Education** Provides an in-depth study of and an exploration into the administrative processes of special education.
ELAD 6423	Special Education Law** Focuses on the legal aspects of special education.

A subscription to Live Text is required to create an electronic portfolio for certification, interact with class groups and exchange key assignments with instructor. A one-time fee of $98 ensures the student access to Live Text for the duration of their enrollment in the degree program.
