Academic Standing

ACADEMIC PROBATION:

Students are placed on academic probation when their cumulative or semester institutional GPA is below a 2.00. Students on academic probation are restricted to 12 hours of enrollment and are encouraged to see their advisors to create a strategic plan to improve their academic standing.  First time freshmen who are placed on academic probation at the end of their first semester have the option to take a one credit course. College Choices (UC 1011) is a graded, one-credit course designed to offer mentoring and group support to second semester, first-year students who had a poor academic start in college. College Choices is recommended for any freshman who is placed on academic probation at the end of his or her first semester of enrollment.  Students who choose to enroll in College Choices still have a registration restriction, but it is 13 hours to allow for the 1 hour College Choices course.  Students who are on a scholarship that requires more than 12 semester hours may appeal the hour restriction by submitting the appropriate from to the Office of the Registrar.

ACADEMIC SUSPENSION:

Students are placed on academic suspension when their cumulative and semester institutional GPA is below a 2.00 and they are already on academic probation. Students are required to sit out a suspension period unless they have not participated in the Restart@Astate Program.  The Restart@state Program is a mandatory intervention program for students placed on a first academic suspension at Arkansas State University.

Students are not eligible for the Restart@state Program if

  • they are not on a first suspension.
  • they have not been enrolled at Arkansas State University for more than 2 years.
  • they have previously attempted Restart.

Eligible students who take advantage of this opportunity are enrolled in the Restart Program. The main program requirement is enrollment in a one-credit, graded course. The Restart Seminar is designed to aid students back to solid academic performance with emphasis placed on self-responsibility, proper decision-making and study skills strategies. Students must submit a completed application before consideration for acceptance into the program.

All students who participate in the Restart Program must attend one of the summer workshops from the following dates.
