Program Description

Earn 3 credits of coursework studying abroad in Barcelona and experience a European perspective of understanding event and facility management of various sport and recreation entities. The Study Abroad Program in Sport Management will expose you to both international sports venues and organizations, as well as an exploration of some Spanish culture.

Why study abroad in Barcelona, Spain?

FC Barcelona: Even if you are not a football fan, the stadium of FC Barcelona team is worth visiting. For those who like going to football games, there are games for almost the whole year.

Events: Barcelona is one of the favorite cities for conferences and event organization worldwide. Some of the most famous are the GSM World Mobile Congress and the Grand Prix of Spain F1.

Cultural Life and Festivals: Barcelona has become a very cosmopolitan city. You can find artistic and cultural exhibitions throughout the city. There are many art galleries and museums like MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona), the Picasso Museum, the Miró Foundation and the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya). In the music scene, Barcelona holds festivals such as the Primavera Sound or Sonar.

Architecture:  In Barcelona, you can find many monuments built and designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. Some of Gaudi’s most impressive works are the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, Casa Batllo and Park Guell. Additionally, you will also find the spectacular gothic Cathedral or the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar.

Gastronomy: The Catalan cuisine is based on the Mediterranean diet with a lot of vegetables, bread, cereals and olive oil. You find almost everything in Barcelona, from seafood to fresh fruit, also many food markets and great restaurants with typical Catalan cuisine. The famous dishes are called ´tapas´, which are small portions of different types of food, not to miss!

Fashion: Barcelona is popular for its creative and innovative fashion. You can find many different brands such as the famous Zara or famous designers like Ailanthus, El Delgado Buil, and Custo.

Activities: Barcelona is an ideal place for walking or biking. There is also the possibility of adventure sports, like surfing, kitesurfing, kayaking, sailing, balloon rides and many more.

Weather: Barcelona is a great location. It has a mild climate throughout the year. The average day temperature is 24°C (that is about 75°F).

Beach: Barcelona is located on the coast and there are miles of beaches all along the north. The main beach of Barcelona is divided into five or more smaller beaches.
