The Graduate Hall Director (GHD) is responsible for managing a residence hall. Duties include establishing a community that enhances the educational experience of students, supervising student staff, advising student government groups, and coordinating administrative and operational functions.
Responsibilities in the paid leadership position of RA are numerous, and the RA is the focal point for the day-to-day operation of his/her floor. The RA is at one time: student, community developer, referral agent, business manager, peer, friend, and disciplinarian. Simply stated, the RA position is the most comprehensive student leadership position attainable at Arkansas State University. This diversity of roles and responsibilities is challenging and calls on the RA to develop organizational and interpersonal skills. The position of RA provides an opportunity to maximize self-development, maturity, and confidence during the college years.
Desk Assistants are often the first contact for students and guests entering the resident hall, and it is important that the desk staff sets a welcoming environment for students and guests. Desk assistants will also aid the Residence Hall Director as needed.
