What is A-State Connection?
A-State Connection is an overnight diversity recruitment program designed for high achieving high school juniors from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds. Students will receive information about A-State resources and tips on how to successfully navigate college. The weekend will be filled with fun and informative sessions to connect students to all aspects of academic and campus life at A-State.
A-State Connection Requirements
- The student must reside in Arkansas or the Memphis, TN metro area
- The student must be from a marginalized racial/ethnic background (Examples: African American, Asian American, Native American, Hispanic)
- The student must be a junior matriculating in a college preparatory curriculum
- The student must have either (1) a 2.75 cumulative GPA and a 19
ACT OR(2) a 3.00 cumulative GPA and an 18 ACT.

A-State Connection FAQs
Can I drive?
Yes. Students are welcome to drive to and from A-State Connection, with parent/guardian permission. Once the student is on campus, they will need to park their vehicle in the designated spots for the weekend. A-State Vans will shuttle students to local events over the weekend. Once the weekend is complete, the student will be able to remove their car from the designated parking area and head home. Please be advised of start and end times for our scheduled events if you drive. Parents/Guardians are also welcome to drive their students and pick them up upon completion of weekend activities.
Where are we staying?
Participants for A-State Connection will be housed at a local hotel disclosed in your logistics email. A-State Connection participants will check in on Friday evening after 3pm and depart Saturday morning before the final activities commence Saturday afternoon.
Do I need transportation around town?
No. We will provide shuttle services to and from the scheduled events located off campus.
Do I need spending money?
You are not required to bring spending money as all meals will be provided during the event. However, students are welcome to bring spending money for snacks, souvenirs, etc.
What should I bring?
You should bring a small duffle bag for a one-night stay, toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, face wash, Deodorant), comfortable shoes, light jacket, pajamas, and change of comfortable clothes.
