The Serials Department is responsible for maintaining subscriptions of magazines and newspapers.
There are approxiamtely 1800 serial titles, separated into two collections: pre-1980 and 1980 through current. Pre-1980 journals are currently in storage and are unretrievable while we renovate the library. If you need a pre-1980 journal during this time, you will need to fill out an InterLibrary Loan request. Anything after 1980 is on the main floor in the tower and are readily available. All periodicals are non-circulating, although faculty can check them out for a 24 hour period using their ASU ID.
The department's main responsibility is processing all the current magazines and newspapers for each day and getting them out on the shelves for the public to use. We are also responsible for shelf maintenance of all the journals, as well as, the Front Porch reading area, which consists of the 'popular' journals and the most current newspapers. We also maintain the library photocopier and solicit donations of journals for the library.
Questions about journal orders or donations should be directed to the Acquisitions and Serials Department.
