Program Description
Arkansas State University’s Global Engagement and Outreach department now offers a comprehensive program that provides a system of support and opportunities for undergraduate online students with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are interested in working towards a degree and a successful career.
EduCare is designed to diminish many of the challenges that come with attempting a traditional four-year degree while simultaneously preparing each student to obtain and sustain employment following degree completion. EduCare students can remain at home with confidence in their existing support and familiar environment while enrolled in courses through Arkansas State University. There is no additional cost from an A-State Online student's tuition.
This program allows for inclusion into the educational environment at a pace that is individualized to each student. This four-year degree program also allows for gradual skill-building and progression into community and work contexts.
General Overview
Support will be provided through regular meetings with the EduCare team and access to an Arkansas State University student mentor over video conferencing or phone calls. Each student will collaboratively work with their mentor on developing skills in the following four domains:
Education
Social Competency
Community Living Skills
Career Preparation
