ACT PREP CAMP!

July 8, 2018 - July 14, 2018

This residential camp is being offered to rising high school seniors who  have previously taken the ACT and are part of an underrepresented ethic population. We’ll help you tackle the ACT and answer your questions about college admissions, academics and campus life. You’ll get assistance to work on your test-taking skills, learn about the many exciting opportunities that Arkansas State University offers, stay in a residence hall and experience campus life.

This camp is scheduled to take place the second week of July every year. Unlike other universities, this opportunity is being offered free of charge for participants. All meals, housing, activities and supplies will be provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the participant need to have taken the ACT before in order to get accepted?

Yes, we do require the student to have previously taken the ACT in order to get accepted. It is helpful if a student has had some exposure to the test prior to attending the program. We are also requesting that participants register for the July 14, 2018 ACT test date (The Deadline for register for the test date is June 15, 2018) and list Arkansas State University as the testing site.

How are students selected for the ACT Academy?

Students should fill out the application in its entirety. We highly consider the open response portion when reviewing applications, as it allows us to get to know the student a bit more. The prompt for the open response is as follows, “Briefly describe your academic goals and why you would make an excellent candidate to participate in the ACT Prep Camp at Arkansas State University.”

How will the participant be notified if accepted?

We will notify applicants in June via email. Further details on how to accept your invitation will be included in the email. An RSVP will be required by June 21, 2018 and spots will not be held for failing to respond.

Once I’m accepted, are there other forms to submit?

Yes. Once you are notified of acceptance, and you acknowledge your attendance, you will receive additional information. Forms that you will be required to submit include: insurance verification, a waiver of liability, media/data release form, and a student expectations agreement.

What if an applicant has previously attended A-State Connection?

Our policy for students who have previously attended A-State Connection, another event sponsored by the Division Of Diversity & Community Engagement, is that the student will automatically be placed on a waiting list. Returning students are welcome to apply, but we place priority on competitive students who have not attended any of our programs before.

What age group will attend?

We are seeking our program participants to be primarily rising high school seniors. We are expecting to accept 50 students for this year's program.

How safe is campus and the program?

We consider Arkansas State University to be a safe campus. We have the University Police Department immediately available to us should an emergency situation arise. To ensure the safety of all of our program participants, our program staff is carefully selected and trained, and all program activities are supervised.

Who will be supervising the participants in the dorm?

Residential hall staff, and college student mentors, all of whom have been carefully selected and trained, will be living in the residence hall and hosting participants around campus. Students are not allowed to travel anywhere without the company of a mentor.

Is transportation provided?

No, transportation is not provided to accepted participants. Participants are expected to arrive at Arkansas State University between the hours of 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. In efforts to reduce liability, we are encouraging students to not drive personal vehicles, but instead have parent(s)/guardian(s) to drop them off at the campus.
