Graphic saying New VA Takes Next Step to Modernize Scheduling System - The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a new Medical Appointment Scheduling System; the next step in a series of actions VA has taken to replace its antiquated legacy scheduling system. The new system will improve access to care for Veterans by providing medical schedulers with cutting-edge, management-based scheduling software. The RFP will be made public by the end of September 2014; eligible vendors will have 30 days to respond from the day of issuance. (8/25/14)

Graphic saying New VA Expands Patient-Centered Community Care (PC3) Contracts to Provide Access to Primary Care - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced today that primary care has been added to the services available to Veterans through VA’s Patient-Centered Community Care (PC3) contracts, a key and evolving part of the non-VA medical care program. Eligible Veterans are already able to access inpatient specialty care, outpatient specialty care, mental health care, limited emergency care and limited newborn care for female Veterans following childbirth under PC3. VA Announces New Grants to Help End Veterans Homelessness - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald today announced the award of approximately $300 million in grants that will help approximately 115,000 homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families. The grants will be distributed to 301 community agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. (8/11/14)

In Phoenix, Secretary McDonald Announces Independent Review of All VA Scheduling Practices - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald today announced the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has initiated an independent, nation-wide review of all scheduling practices at VA medical facilities. In his first trip as Secretary, McDonald also announced a series of additional actions to improve veterans’ access to timely, quality health care following a series of meetings with veterans and employees at the Phoenix VA Health Care System (VAHCS). Secretary McDonald Announces Town Hall Events at Veterans’ Facilities Nationwide - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald has directed all Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare and benefits facilities to hold town-hall events by the end of September to improve communication with, and hear directly from, Veterans nationwide. VA Fights Against Veteran Identity Theft - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today announced that it has launched a new campaign to educate Veterans about identity theft prevention. The new campaign, titled More Than a Number, references the personally identifiable information that VA encourages Veterans to protect. (8/5/14)

Governor Mike Beebe Veterans Fund Gala
We are pleased to announce the Governor Mike Beebe Veterans Fund Gala is scheduled for this year, and registration is now open!
In 2008, Buddy Beck (Arkansas State, '58), his wife, and their Family Foundation in conjunction with alumni members of the Sigma Pi Fraternity at Arkansas State University including Sigma Pi alumnus and Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, (Arkansas State, '68) created the Governor Mike Beebe Veterans Fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to members of the United States Armed Forces who have served in the Afghanistan or Iraq Conflicts and their sons, daughters, or spouses attending a post secondary institution. Thanks to the contributions by alumni and friends of Sigma Pi, the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation has been able to provide more than $159,000 to help support the educational pursuits of over 150 veterans and their families.

Veterans Fund Gala
Veterans Van Service - Free Transportation to VA Memphis Hospital:
Tuesdays thru Fridays the Disabled American Veterans Jonesboro Chapter 26 provides FREE transportation for military veterans to and from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Memphis, TN. - Veterans must be ambulatory.
- Caregivers must present a letter from patient's physician stating that a caregiver is required.
- The DAV van is not wheelchair accessible and wheelchairs cannot be transported. (Canes and walkers are allowed.)
- The DAV driver and Veterans Administration are not responsible for any articles left on the van.
- Smoking is not permitted on the DAV van or within 25 feet of the vehicle.
- Additional DAV Van Drivers are needed. Contact the CCSVO to volunteer.
