Create @ stAte Symposium Winners Announced by Office of Research & Technology Transfer

JONESBORO -- The Office of Research & Technology Transfer (ORTT) at Arkansas State University announced the winners of Create @ STATE: A Symposium of Research, Scholarship & Creativity during an awards ceremony.

Nearly 300 undergraduate and graduate students presented their research, scholarly and creative activities by panel discussion, poster presentation, video pitch and/or creative performance, according to Cheryl Dison, director of research development for ORTT.

A grand prize was awarded to the overall best poster presentation and oral presentation for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The top undergraduate honor for a poster presentation was awarded to Brett Shirley, Ezra Rodgers and Kasha Shannon of Jonesboro, and Devin Harper of Bay for their poster “Assessment of High DFW Courses: General Chemistry I Focus Groups.”

The top graduate honor for a poster presentation was awarded to Taylor Gregory of Piggott, Brandi Koschmann of Lafe, Tracey Mallard of Piggott and Melody McCaig of Steele, Mo., for their poster “Extending the Medicaid Program to More Uninsured Arkansans will be Beneficial to the State as a Whole.”

The top undergraduate honor for an oral presentation was awarded to Aaron Hattle of Lepanto for his presentation “Mary Sues in Literature.”

The top graduate honor for an oral presentation was awarded to Ashton Erwin of Mountain Home for her presentation “Bounded Area Tests for Comparing the Dynamics Between ARMA Series.”

All grand prize winners received $500 ASU IT Store gift cards.

Forty students received first, second and third place awards in 13 award divisions. First-place students were awarded $100 ASU IT Store gift cards, second-place students were awarded $50 ASU IT Store gift cards and third-place students were awarded $25 ASU IT Store gift cards.

Students participating in the Three Minute Thesis Competition received a first-place prize of $500, second place of $250, third place of $150 and a people’s choice award of $100.
