Fowler Center’s Family Friendly Series To Feature Ventriloquist/Comedian, Friday, Oct. 11

10/02/2013

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, presents ventriloquist and comedian Lynn Trefzger, the first event in its new Family Friendly Series, on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. This and other Family Friendly Series events feature special ticket prices and entertainment that appeals to younger audiences.

Discovery Island Learning Center is sponsoring the show, a Homecoming Weekend event at A-State.

For more than 30 years, Trefzger has given life to a trunk full of comical characters including Chloe, a precocious 3-year old, Camelot, a goofy, fun loving camel, Emily a boy-troubled teenager, Simon, an actual dummy, and a bear who likes kids with ketchup.

Trefzger describes her talent as “a childhood hobby that got out of hand.” She has performed for audiences worldwide in corporations, colleges, theatres, and cruise ships. A recipient of The American comedy Award, Variety Entertainer of the Year, and Comedy Entertainer of the Year by the National Association of Campus Activities, Lynn (and her many voices) have appeared on ABC, TNN, A&E, and Lifetime. Voted “People’s Choice Award” in 2010 by the Ohio Arts Presenters Association, her performances are tailored for both family and adult audiences.

Not only does she use her trunk full of puppets, but Trefzger promises to make the audience laugh and cry (as a result of the laughter) by turning volunteers from the audience into human puppets, and throwing hilarious voices into them.

The events will be kid-friendly, meaning young children ages two and up are welcome and will enjoy the show.

“Families are going to really enjoy these shows,” says Dr. Wendy Hymes, director of Fowler Center. “We wanted to give families additional affordable options for entertainment besides going to see a movie. And Lynn Trefzger is hold-your-sides-and-laugh-your-tail-off funny.  And watch out because she involves volunteers from the audience in the humorous antics of the show.”

Kids also can participate in a free puppet-making workshop before the show from 6 until 6:45.  Interested persons should please RSVP with the number of children by calling (870) 972-3471 by Oct. 9.

All seating is reserved. Individual tickets for the Family Friendly Series are $8 for children and seniors, $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center, 217 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro, or by calling (870) 972-ASU1 or by calling toll-free at (888) ASU-FANS. Tickets are also available online from the ASU Central Box Office (http://www2.astate.edu/tickets/) and from Fowler Center (www.yourfowlercenter.com).
